Stuart has put together a video of everything Alice has done for her third birthday. It's on You tube, because the video quality is much better. So you can find it there. It is 8 mins long.
On Sat 27th Alice had a party for 4 of her friends. They all made an Easter card of a chick and all seemed to really enjoy sticking it all together. We then had cake, ice cream and jelly. Alice said the best part about her birthday was the cake.
If only she knew how tricky it was to bake. I hired the number 3 tin, which did not have base to it. So it took me half an hour just to line the thing and it was being held together with clothes pegs in order to create a seal around the inside so no cake would leak out. Anyway, it turned out OK and Alice was really pleased with it. It was edible and in the shape of a 3, so I was happy.
Then we had a bit of a singing session, which I think they all enjoyed, I think the mums enjoyed it more though. Accompanied by Stuart on guitar. Then they all went off and emptied Alice's toy box and just played with her toys. It is really funny watching a bunch of 2/3 year olds playing. They just don't play together, but play around each other, so they were all doing their own thing and not actually interacting at all. Apparently around 4 is when that changes.
Also Alice had a special visitor for her birthday, Nanny (Pauline's mum). She was really pleased to have her Nanny visiting and when she was leaving Alice said she'd really enjoyed her visiting and that she wouldn't have a friend in the house any more!!!!
On Alice's birthday itself, much fun was had at a small farm in Newcastle. She really enjoyed seeing all the animals. Then it was off to Seven Stories. If you've been on the blog before you'll remember (or not as the case may be) that she met Maisy (the mouse) there last year. It is an interactive place about books, so there is a craft section in the basement and then they have various exhibitions on too, which change every now and again. I think there's a Walker Books exhibition on soon (Maisy, We're going on a bear hunt etc), so we may be going back for that. It really is a brilliant place and she really enjoyed it. Then it was home to open the presents. She got a digital camera from us and she has taken some quite good pictures with it. So at some point will have to upload them to the computer and then put some on here.
Hope you enjoy watching the video.

Happy Birthday Alice xxxxx
What a lovely video, its like looking at a mini Pauline! I love the sunglasses photo, very cute. One thing though Pauline, there was a lot of pink wrapping paper lol!!
Yeah, we ran out and my mum went to buy some and asked the lady for some wrapping paper and that's what she was given.
I can't see Alice looking like me at all!!!!
I think you have a secret love of everything pink and you have a 'pink' cupboard where you hide it all and only on special occasions do you take some of it out!!
Really and truly Lisa, I can confidently tell you, I don't!!!! If you ever visit, you can have a thorough search of the house!!!!
Funny, you've tried visiting a few times, but the cake has always disappeared before you got here and you've always turned round and flown back home again. Maybe we're trying to tell you something!!!! Mmmm, wonder what that could be!??!!
By the by, Lisa, what did you think of the cake?
Huh! I thought you were my friend???? Any wonder I went home again, you keep telling us how lovely the cake is but when I get there its gone! Ha ha!!
The birthday cake was great, well done xx
Orange cake on the menu tonight, fancy it? However, we do have Home Group, so not likely to be much left.
Thanks, I was really pleased with how it turned out.
When I make orange cake I make the icing with pure orange, nice!
What great photos and video clips!! I really enjoyed seeing that. I agree with Lisa, she is the spit of you Pauline...and I love when she says "I dont know" soooo cute. Lovely seeing your mum too, she is looking well. Glad Alice had a great 3rd Birthday, before you know it you will be celebrating her 13th!!! haha
P.S. The cake looked great too - wouldnt mind a bite of that right now, am craving sweet things!! haha
I haven't had time to watch the video yet, but I will!
Well done on the cake, must say it sounded a right handling, but you got there!
Any orange cake left?
I used the rind for the sponge and then the juice of the orange for the icing, but I was doing butter icing, so you can't use too much. The icing is really bright orange, great!!!
There is some orange cake left if you want to pop down for some. Maybe tomorrow though, it's a bit late now.
Now dont start all that business again!! When we tell you we are at the airport you will say 'oops, its all done'!! I know your sort you know!!!!
That was lovely Pauline - I just love catching up with everybody else's kids! The cake looked brilliant, well done for mastering the number cake. Alice seems to have had a wonderful time, you've made some wonderful memories for her.
Lisa, are you even going to try and make it across this time!!???
Charlene, thanks, I really enjoy seeing everyone's children too. It's great to feel a small part of each others' lives, even though we all live so far apart!!!
I agree - its great following each others lives and seeing how the kids are getting on.....a few years ago I thought I had lost contact with everyone I grew up with - but now its great being back in touch again!
She’s a wee dote Pauline – Happy Birthday Alice. Isn’t it hard to believe she’s 3 already?! Ruth x
Ruth, lovely to hear from you. It absolutely is hard to believe she's three, not quite sure where the time has gone at all!!!!
Laura, I know what you mean about thinking you'd lost contact with everyone. Amazing how this internet thingy, brings people together.
Isnt it amazing, how we live all over the place but we found each other again, and now are in each others lives every day!!
Finally got time to watch the video.
(You've got the same Denby as me!)
I think 'mummy' did a lot of the shopping for Alice's birthday . . . all those books!
She's certainly takes the paper off very delicately:-)
How funny, we have the Denby, our neighbour has the same one too.
She did need quite a few new books, as most of the ones she has are for young children and board books. She has outgrown them now and really enjoys longer stories. She was getting a bit bored with not a great variety of books. She loves books so much.
Today she was a bit fed up before dinner, as I was clearing away after we'd made gingerbread men. I said you look a bit lost Alice, do you want to play with your play dough. She said, No I'll get a book and read to myself. So she got her Bible and sat on the sofa and read to herself for ages!!!
Aw bless! I love it when they pretend they can read, the stuff they babble can be so funny!!
Right come on now or Alice will be four haha!!
