Kelso 08

Hi all, never fear, we have just been away for a week in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders. The cottage was beautiful and we needed the holiday. We've been back nearly a week, now but it has been fairly hectic. There wasn't a great deal to do in November with a toddler, but the point was to get away and relax, which we certainly did. It was also our 8th wedding anniversary whilst we were away. A local caterer provides meals for people in their cottages. So we did that and had a cosy meal for two after Alice went to bed. This is the view from the back of the cottage.

We bought a new back pack for Alice, as she really enjoys walking around now when we're out, we rarely take the pram any more. However, in order to walk a bit further we bought this so that when she wants up she can be in this. However, she only really liked being in it for about 15 mins. It was really cold when this picture was taken and she cried the whole way because she wouldn't keep her gloves on and her hands were freezing.

The cottage was in a row of three. Ours was the furthest, but this was just a beautiful picture with the sun going down and glowing on the cottages.

Every time we got into the car Alice would say "ome", home. We would say "no, we're going ..." or, "we're going back to the cottage". She would always say home. Then when we were actually going home, we got to a round about fairly near our house and she said "ome" and then again when we got to the end of our street. So we think she was glad to be home. This is her trying to get into the cottage in her new wellie boots. There was a wee children's shoe shop in Kelso and so we were able to buy her these. They are green with leaves and snails on them. A walker commented on how gorgeous they were on one walk as she passed by.

Just a cute picture of Alice. Shortly after this she wanted out of the back pack and cried the whole way back!!!!

Welcome back to the land of blogging Pauline. You have been missed.

Glad you had a good break away. It really does you good to get away from things and relax and it certainly looks like you did that. The scenery looks lovely.

Love the last picture of Alice!! So cute.

Looks like you have a wee home bird on your hands!! Andrew always loved to come home - he is still the same...out is good but home is best!!

Thanks Laura. It was good to get away from all the chores and not have to be out at certain times etc!! I love Scotland anyway, have a real affinity with it. Probably something to do with my mum being Scottish and spending so many holidays there. It is good to explore other areas though. I think Stuart and I have covered about 70% of it now though. Not many areas we haven't visited. Haven't done any of the islands yet.

Indeed, we may well have a wee home bird on our hands. We'll see if it's just a phase or part of who she is. Quite exciting watching her personality develop and watch who she's becoming.

Aren't the borders just beautiful:-) I keep meaning to go over there with David, but haven't done it yet. My favourite parts are up the West Coast, I've always wanted to have a holiday in Skye, but not managed it yet, been through it, but not stayed there.

You are right about the cute picture of Alice - great smile.

David is also a home bird, I don't even think he does say 'out is good . . .' I think it's more 'do we have to go?!'

Glad you enjoyed your break Pauline. Enjoy going away at weird times of the year now. Once school starts you're grounded!

Rhoda, we went to Ballantrae for a week and then up to Fort William for a week on our honeymoon. The weather was great the whole way through the holiday and the colours were just fantastic. Plus my mum is from Ayreshire and so spent a lot of my holidays there.

Charlene, indeed we are very aware that holiday costs will rocket once she's at school and we have to do school holidays. However, as I used to teach I'm used to that anyway.

Looks like you had a really lovely time and the weather seemed to behave itself. Does you good to get away from the hum-drum and routine of normal life for a while doesnt it?

Lisa, it doesn't half do you good to get away. Thinking about the Lake District for our next holiday. We don't want to venture too far and muck up too much of her sleep, as she only sleeps 40 mins in the car, we can't get her to stretch it beyond that at all.
