Pauline's mum came over this week for a visit to catch up with grandchild number 7. Alice enjoyed playing with the bubbles, sitting on Nanny's knee reading stories, doing "horsey horsey", playing football (Nanny was very impressed with Alice's dribbling skills, the ball that is not because she's teething) and generally being doted on.

We also took another trip to Alnwick Gardens. Pauline's mum generally comes over at Christmas when it's dark by about 3pm. So it was a treat to show Nanny some of the beauties this part of the country has to offer. We took a drive through Northumberland to keep Alice asleep and also show Nanny some of the stunning scenery.

Nanny, Pauline and Alice posing for a family portrait at Alnwick Gardens.

We also got Alice this wee kitchen. She follows Pauline around wanting up when she's trying to cook. So we thought getting this kitchen might help. However, Alice has had Nanny to entertain her this week, so we'll see how she goes with it next week. We got it through Freecycle. Don't know if you've heard of it, it's online and is all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. It's free to join up and you join a group in your local area. I was thinking about buying Alice a wee kitchen and then this came up and snapped it up. We also got rid of her old car seat and baby bath. You can't sell car seats on, in case they've been in a crash, so this was ideal. The car seat was as good as new and so it seemed a shame to just throw it in the dump. Really glad someone can use it instead.
We bought her this wee bubble machine. It was a bit windy when we used it, but she really enjoyed chasing the bubbles around and trying to burst them. No doubt much fun will be had on warm sunny days in the garden chasing bubbles.

Hi Pauline
Your mum is looking really well. Nice to see some photos of her, please say hello to her from me. Love the picture of the three of you!
Good idea to get a kitchen for Alice. We got Leah one when she was about her age and she just LOVED that kitchen. We set it in the kitchen and when I made dinner, Leah made dinner...she copied everything I did. It was great cause I got the dinner made while Leah was having fun!! Love Laura
Hi Laura,
I did show my mum your blog. She couldn't believe the age of Sara. She said it was lovely to see you all.
That's what I'm hoping about the wee kitchen. It is just outside the kitchen, but I might move it in when I'm cooking. We'll see how it goes. She does enjoy putting everything in the sink and "washing" them.
Love P
Hi Pauline & Mum,
Wow! I can't believe your Mum looks so well-absolutely gorgeous. Obviously you & your friends were so good & well behaved throughout the teenage years that she doesn't have one worry line or wrinkle that we're responsible for!!!!!Ha ha. Hope you are all well. Talk later.
that last comment was from me! Charlene. I'm still hopeless at these blog site messaging things.
Charlene,
My mum will be very pleased to hear that. She went home last night.
Thanks for the Mars Bar and apple sandwich recipe. I used to love them. Every time there was an event at church I hoped she'd made them and was inconsolable if she hadn't. Unfortunately, there's one draw back. We don't have veda bread here. More's the pity. Love that too.
You'll have to set up your own blog site so we can keep up to date with the goings on in the McKelvey househould.
Love P
hi Pauline Good idea that you gave Charlene,to set up her own blog so we can follow whats happening. (charlene if you read this get cracking on a blog - it would be fun to follow you and your family)
Hey it´s ages since I´ve had mars bar and apple sandwiches. I actually brought a veda bread once back from ireland and made it for my colleagues, they really liked them.
As Charlene said we were actually really good teenagers - our parents didn´t have too much to worry about with us.
Ok away again. Love Laura
Charlene, it's funny you say that Alice looks like Claira, Jacqueline sent me a picture of Claira and Alex when they were both one. People I showed the photo to here, all said she had Claira's eyes. Would you believe they are now 26 and 22?
One other thing I used to love in Norn Iron, were cinnamon lozenges and also Tayto cheese and onion crisps. When will they be exported over here? We did find raspberry ruffles though, yummmeeeee!!!
Hi Pauline (& Laura)
The blog is a bit tricky I'm not so good with computers but you never know I've discovered how to leave my name with the messages now so we're progressing! Now down to the important things, Tayto crisps. I had heard that tayto got the tesco contract & that they bought Golden Wonder premises for their production. So maybe Tescos would be good to try.
By the way Laura I was being sarcastic about the good behaviour. You all forget I was there during all YOUR teenage years & I know what you all got up. I could write a book. Talking of books Pauline I remember a few lines from your first attempt at a novel. I really need to get a life I could go on & on!!!!
I wasn't aware that I ever showed my scribblings to anyone. It was probably very Mills and Boon, being a love-struck teenager and all.
Must look into the Tayto crisps then.
You didn't show them to us. You read them out to us and I was that had been the day we had a camcorder with us! I'm sure our faces were a picture. It might have been Lyn was with me-can't remember. What did you call the boy from Spain.
Are you trying to say that my first tender steps into writing weren't very good? I can't imagine that.
His name was Cesar (pronounced, Thesar), I was trying to remember all morning, but then it came to me. I also seem to remember having a heart necklace and cutting his picture out from our holiday snaps and putting him in it. How sad is that?
I remember Cesar! We started to replace every word that started with an s or c with a th sound. It used to crack you up Pauline.Ha ha
