She really enjoyed seeing everyone where Nanna and Grandpa live.
Regarding the subsidence. It's all a bit sensitive, since we have had it proved that the trees in the council owned playing fields behind us are the cause of the subsidence. So can't say too much about it right now, particularly on a public forum like this. It is moving along and I need to contact the insurance company this week to find out what happens next.
I also had the most wonderful news the other day. As most of you know I go twice a year for a blood check for the thyroid cancer which I was diagnosed with 8 years ago. One of the levels has been stubbornly remaining just above the level they deem me cured at. However, it has dropped dramatically below that level and so they now deem me cured!!!!!!! We had actually resigned ourselves to this never happening and had discussed in June what would happen if it never went below 100. It had actually started to creep up a bit and they said if it rose again I would have to have a challenge scan, which means coming off thyroxine and going on a no-iodine diet (no dairy or anything with salt in it) again. So that is what we were expecting, when I rang the nurse the other day for my blood results, that they had risen again and I would be going for that scan. I have my appointment in clinic next week, so will see what they want to do next. They will probably call me back in 6 six months to make sure it is staying below 100 and then hopefully move me to yearly appointments. We could not be happier. We cracked open a bottle of bouvrage to celebrate (a sparkling Scottish raspberry drink, our favourite) and tonight we are having a celebratory take-away. After this horrible year, it was just wonderful to speak to the family with some good news for a change.

Once again, Im sooooo happy for you! Brilliant news, praise God.
The photos are lovely, even the sulking one! Is it hard to keep Alice away from the tree? Tom wont leave it alone. Last night he cried and cried at bedtime because he wanted to take it to bed with him! He said for a good half an hour to an hour 'I want the Christmas tree, please, please Christmas tree', over and over, I was ready to cry myself!
Ps - welcome back!!!!
She is mesmerised by it, she keeps turning the lights on and off!!!!!!! The first night it went up, before she went to bed, she walked over to the tree and said "night, night Christmas tree, I'm going to bed now, see you in the morning". Thank goodness we don't have any presents underneath it.
Have you had a look at portablenorthpole? Google it, it is so clever, Alice watched her message from Father Christmas and then when we explained who he was, she watched it again and was nodding the whole way through it and then waved bye bye to him at the end. You have to do one for Tom, it is so adorable.
Also thanks Lisa, it really is brilliant news!!!!
Yes welcome back indeed Pauline - so good to see all the photos!! I really enjoyed looking at them. Its brilliant news that you got Pauline - I am soooo happy for you, you deserve some good news and some encouragement!!
....hope the take away was good!!
Hey Lisa from what I read you have your christmas tree up - so where are your photos girl???? hahaha Come on get blogging!!!!
OK Pauline keep us up to date - really great to read your update here...bye for now
P.S. by the way pauline that santa thing was brilliant. I did one for my friend Anne where she was a naughty girl cause she spent too much time on facebook and left her underies lying all over the floor!! hahahah very funny, wish I had small kids to do it for, were they really would believe it!!
Thanks Laura. Yes, my take-away was yummy, but Stuart wasn't too impressed with his.
That site is brilliant and what a fantastic idea to send it to other people. I think this is the second year it has been running. A friend at Stuart's work told him about it. It really is very clever!!!
Okay, i'll check it out after this. Tom also keeps saying 'Santa brings toys to good boys but bad boys get no presents'! We didnt tell him this so dont know where he got it from, strange wee creatures!
Forgot to say we aren't going to put any presents under the tree in the living room as we know he wont leave them alone, they will be pulled apart by the time Christmas comes! We've two trees this year so I might try them under the one in the dining room rather than in the living room where he always is. He's only in the dining room at meal times and he's in his highchair so they should be safe.
Alice keeps telling us she doesn't like Father Christmas and doesn't want any presents. We'll see how she feels on Christmas Day when we are opening ours and she isn't!! Only kidding, wouldn't do that to her.
You could always move them away if you need to anyway, worth a shot. Let me know how you get on.
Great to see all the photos - it is funny to see the contrast between the happy and pouting ones - and boy she can pout well:-)
Can you imagine what Alice would have been like if you had just turned the car and drove the 4 hours back home again:-)
I bought a Christmas tree in a wee pot this year - we're not going to be here, so wasn't going to bother at all - but then saw the wee one and thought it looked cute - it might go up tomorrow night - or then again it might stay in the pot and get planted in the garden!!!!
What date do you come over Rhoda? Ive tried looking back to where you posted it but cant find it.
Rhoda, she would've been absolutely beside herself if we'd turned around and gone home. About 40 mins before we got home, she just started crying and asked for a hug, of course she's in the back and I'm in the front. We told her we were nearly home and put some of her music on, that cheered her up. It is just so boring in the car for them.
Put your tree up, go on, then it's fulfilling it's tree destiny!!! Then you post pics on your blog!!
Pauline – that’s brilliant news about your blood tests.
Hope you all have a lovely Christmas – I’m sure Alice will be lots of fun! Leia keeps saying ‘so exciting' everytime she sees the Christmas tree or touches the stockings (or reindeer boots as she calls them) on the fireplace - she’ll be great craic this year! Ruth x
Ruth, thank you so much. The other day Alice said she wanted to meet Father Christmas. My neighbour gave me some "food" for the reindeer today for Alice for next week. Not sure where to leave it. They just get more and more fun, am looking forward to seeing her open her presents this year. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.
Great to hear from you.
Pauline I just love the two pics of Alice looking up at the camera - they make me smile every time:-) (no 2 & 7 as you scroll down)
Aw thanks Rhoda. My sister had a look the other day and she said she couldn't believe how much like me Alice looks. I like those two, too.
