Advent

This is Alice's new Advent Calendar. We normally use a fairly traded chocolate Advent Calendar from TearFund. Stuart and I would normally take it in turns to open the window and have the piece of chocolate. If you forgot that day it went to the other person the next day. I went to a Christmas Fair in Newcastle a few weeks ago and bought this for Alice to do. We put it up yesterday and she kept going up on the sofa and reaching over for it. So today when it was brought down for her to do, she went straight for the end one (number 12) and started pulling at it. We pointed at number one and so she did that one and started her nativity scene. Each piece has velcro on the back to stick it to the picture. We told her she does one each day and she can do another one tomorrow. Looking forward to Christmas Eve to see what it looks like all filled. Yes, I will put up some pics of the finished nativity scene.

We've one really like it Pauline. The kids love it. Mind you, the pieces are out and in and out and in the pockets all month!

Ours plays a tune when you press the star. I've tuned it out though so I can't remember what it is.

We have 2 advent calendars beside eachother in the hall and 3 chocolate ones in the kitchen (Livvy was ever so excited this morning to get a reindeer).

Christmas will be great with Alice this year, now that she's more aware of everything. Have fun!

Pauline said on the news this morning that because of the snow there are 30,000 homes in Kelso with no gas supply so no heating etc! Looks like you got home just in time!

Someone at church was telling me about an advent calendar her mum made for them. It sounded really elaborate and beautiful. Really glad ours doesn't play music though, not sure I could stand that. Sounds like you're all advent calendared out. We were thinking about putting wee green and blacks chocolates in each pocket anyway. Stuart says they won't fit!!!!! I'm sure I could squash them in somehow.

Lisa, I didn't hear that. We were thinking about going away this week, we did about 5 years ago. We stayed just south of Edinburgh and it snowed and we didn't really relax, because we spent the week writing Christmas cards etc. We had snow here today as well. It was just a dusting, but was gone by the afternoon.

Both Alice and I are down with this cold going around now. Alice's has developed into a nasty cough!!! She hasn't really slept a great deal today. Then around 5pm asked for "beep" sleep. So I put her up in her cot and she's now asleep. So I'll give her 30 mins just in time for dinner. Poor wee thing.

Toms just getting over the cold and his sleep was all over the place too. Falling asleep at tea time etc, all you can do is go with it. Ronnie took him to the drs one of the days I was at work (I was going to phone in sick but one of the other girls beat me to it), and he was put on antibiotics and steroids. When I heard this I started to cry in work because I felt so guilty being in work when my baby was so ill! We dont put kids on steroids in my work unless they are really bad. But thankfully they helped him really quickly (as he was wheezing like an old man).

Tom has his hearing test tomorrow morning so I will let you all know how it goes.

Forgot to say Tom said 'book' and 'clock' and 'ok' yesterday, only once mind you, but its a start in the right direction.

Lisa, that's really great. Very pleased to hear that he's starting to talk. Lisa, I think around 18 months is perfectly normal for a child to start talking. I bet you'll find from now on he just keeps adding and adding words like there's no tomorrow.

Pray the hearing test goes well tomorrow. I'll look out for info on your blog.

That is great Lisa! I too hope that the test goes well tomorrow.

I bet you're glad you're not in Kelso Pauline, I can't imagine what it must be like to have no gas for two days.
If I had a chocolate advent calendar I don't think it would last 24 days!!!!! (And believe me I'd never forget to take my turn. LOL)

The hearing test was fine! He doesnt have glue ear either, thank goodness. Just lazyitis!!!

Lisa, brilliant news. He's not lazy at all, it is pretty normal to start talking around this age. I really think the HV was being completely over zealous. He's been putting all his energies into growing so tall.
