Fork and certficates

Alice started using a fork for the first time this week. She seemed to quite enjoy using it. She can't quite puncture the food with the fork yet, but if we put the food on the fork she puts it in her mouth. It also gets her eating a wee bit extra as it's a novelty at the moment. She could put the food on the fork a couple of times but it took so long for her to eat we would end up putting the food on as well. Very clever girl.

On that note, she got her first certificate this week too. Not sure if this scheme exists in Northern Ireland, but in England they're trying to encourage people to join libraries and read more. So they have a scheme called book start. You get free books and when you join the library you get a sticker for the first four visits and then get a free book and this certificate. Stuart wanted to put it up in her bedroom. We didn't!!!! First of many we hope.

In the past couple of weeks she has had an explosion of language. She tries to copy everything we say these days. She is learning a new word every day. The latest are: "aggie" for hankie, "adow" for shadow, "go go" for babygrow, "ammy" for mummy, "giga" for Iggle Piggle (a character from In the Night Garden), "wazzee" for washing, "addee" for Amen, "annie" for Nanny and "papa" for Grandpa. There are loads more, but wanted to pick the highlights. She's even starting to try and put words together too. Her sense of humour keeps us very entertained. She plays wee games with us to try and make us laugh and will just laugh raucously for what seems like no reason and keep doing it. Today she did it in Marksies and people kept laughing at her as they walked past.

We were also playing around with the camera today, before we both watched the Olympics Opening Ceremony. OK, Pauline watched it, Alice played with all her toys. So just a funny pic to finish.

Congratulations on the first certificate!!! Won´t be long till your holding her final exam certificate...(believe me!)

I love that last picture of you both. It is so beautiful, you look really well Pauline and I love the wee smile on Alice´s face.

Ok off to town with Andrew and Leah, going out to shop for clothes for Andrew. He is getting soooo big so he needs some new trousers. Leah wants a football as she started to really get into this and actually wants to start playing football this year as a freetime activity. (what happened to my girls - one races cars, the other plays football!!??)

Talk soon again

We have book start here but it seems to change every year. Molly got a box of books, Simon got a laminated nursery rhyme poster and bag of books and I think Li.vy got a bag of books too.

I know what you mean about the language. When Simon was born the health visitor came round and gave Molly a book to keep her occupied whilst she dealt with Simon. It was a book to test the words for a 2 and a half year old test that she had just done. Molly knew all the words - much to Carol's (the HV) amusement! As she was my first, I thought it was normal to be saying phrases at 15 months!! It made me think Simon needed speech therapy though because he wasn't putting words together until 1 and a half!

Mind you - it would be great to have a bit of quiet now instead of the running commentary on all of their lives!!!

Laura, thanks about the photo, Alice just smiles as soon as you point the camera in her general direction. I was thinking that after your trips to Primark you wouldn't need to shop again, ever. But growing boys will be growing boys.

If there's football on the telly Alice points and shouts "kick" "kick" because that's what she does with her ball.

Lorraine, that is amazing that they were putting phrases together by 18 months. Boys speech tends to come on later. Then again children of yours talking early, it's no real surprise really.

D and C, welcome home.

Glad you like the new look blog. We are sooooooo excited about tomorrow for you. Please let us know how it goes. Can't wait to meet your boys, we'll bring the bubble machine to the beach. If it ever stops raining.

Really sorry we can't make it on the 30th, we're absolutely gutted.

Much love from us.
